Embracing Nature: The Garden Flower Series

The Garden Flower Series was a joy to create, with each piece painted using the wet-on-wet watercolor technique. This approach involves laying down paint on a wet surface, allowing the colors to flow and bleed into one another, forming smooth edges and soft, natural layers. The beauty of wet-on-wet is in its unpredictability—it often leads to happy accidents that give the painting a life of its own. I like to say the painting decides what it will look like!

For this series, I worked with a vibrant palette that captures the essence of blooming gardens. Some of my favorite shades include Daniel Smith’s Pyrrol Scarlet, Nickel Azo Yellow, Lemon Yellow, Sap Green, Cerulean Blue, and French Ultramarine. I also incorporated Winsor & Newton’s Cadmium Red and New Gamboge, along with Grumbacher’s delicate Mauve to add a touch of softness and warmth.

To ensure that these prints reflect the richness and texture of the original paintings, I use Canon LUCIA PRO ink. This high-quality ink brings out the vibrancy, clarity, and uniformity of each color, creating a striking final print. The prints are made on Fabriano cold press watercolor paper, which has a lovely, textured surface that mimics the feel of the original artwork.

Whether you’re looking to bring a touch of the garden into your home or want a piece of art that celebrates the beauty of nature, I hope these prints offer a little inspiration
